HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Dates of founding and/or dissolution:
The Manpower Advisory Council was created in 1977 by means of the Manpower Development Act, 1976 c. 31 s. 50. The Council was dissolved in 1986 by means of the Department of Manpower Statutes Amendment Act, 1986 c. 14, which repealed the sections of the Manpower Development Act which had created the Council.

Functional responsibility:
The Council was created to liaise with all sectors of industry and labour in the province regarding manpower requirements and supply, advise the Minister responsible for manpower programs, and make policy recommendations to the Minister on the basis of its reviews.

Predecessor and successor bodies:
There were no predecessor or successor agencies with the same functions as the Manpower Advisory Council.

Administrative relationships:
The Council reported to the Minister of Advanced Education and Manpower (1977-1983) and the Minister of Manpower/Career Development and Employment (1983-1986).

Administrative structure:
The Council consisted of a Chairman, six members of the general public, and a number of ex officio members. All members were appointed by the minister responsible for the Council. Public members represented industrial management, unions, academic and service industry workers.
