SCOPE AND CONTENT: | Series consists of administrative records from the Eugenics Board, which was given authority under the Sexual Sterilization Act to determine which individuals would undergo sterilization operations. The Eugenics Board operated from 1928 to 1972; officially ceasing operations with the proclamation of the Sexual Sterilization Repeal Act of 1972. The Eugenics Board operated under the Department of Health, but these records were retained and used by the Department of Community and Occupational Health in the fulfillment of their mandate before transfer to the Provincial Archives of Alberta. Records include correspondence, accounts, annual reports, orders-in-council and statistical information. |
