The series contains records from the Edmonton Regional Office of the Handicapped Services Division, which was responsible for ensuring the availability and development of community services for the mentally and physically disabled throughout the Edmonton region. The Edmonton Regional Office was organized into three units, which were responsible for different services. The Client Services Unit (CSU) provided information, referral, placement and/or follow-up services primarily for handicapped adults. The CSU identified regional service needs and conveyed these to the Resource Development Unit (RDU). The RDU was responsible for ensuring the development and maintenance of a comprehensive system of community services for handicapped persons throughout the Edmonton region. Administrative Support coordinated the operation of several direct services such as the Hillside Apartments, the Eric Cormack Centre, Rosecrest Home, Resources for the Dependent Handicapped and Behavioural Management Services.
