SCOPE AND CONTENT: | Series consists of Department of Social Services and Community Health records documenting the department's administration of programs for mentally and physically handicapped adults. The Social Services division, through the Rehabilitation Services Program (formerly the Vocational Rehabilitation Services Branch) and the Residential Service Program (formerly Services for the Handicapped Branch), was responsible for the development, monitoring and evaluation of specialized services for handicapped persons. It was also responsible for the provision of vocational services, including employment placement, to adults in receipt of other departmental services. Many of these services were delivered by voluntary community based agencies with financial support from the Province through grants or contracts.
Series consists of minutes, agendas, reports, correspondence and other records of numerous internal and external committees concerning services to the handicapped in Alberta. Series also includes agreements, reports, association files, and policy, procedure and planning documents regarding the development and administration of the rehabilitation program.
