SCOPE AND CONTENT: The subseries consists of the records of the Legislative Counsel pertaining to the drafting of Alberta Statutes, which is legislation that becomes provincial laws after they have been passed by the Legislative Assembly and proclaimed by the Lieutenant Governor. The records include rough drafts of legislation; correspondence relating to the revision or development of Statutes; copies of edited bills and acts, including those prepared for the Revised Statutes of Alberta; legal opinions from solicitors within the departments and from Legislative Counsel; ministerial requests for legislation; copies of similar legislation from other jurisdictions; and final drafts.
