SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The series consists of files created by the Inspector of Legal Offices pertaining to its review and investigation of the operations of various judicial and government offices in Alberta. The files include correspondence, forms, circulars, inspection reports, financial audits, opinions, staff lists, statistics, lists of stock, recommendations of orders-in-council, returns of clerks and memoranda pertaining to:
- Judicial officials, including judges, clerks and deputy clerks, sheriffs and deputy sheriffs, masters in chambers, bailiffs, process issuers, shorthand writers, court reporters, judges and interpreters;
- Courts, such as the Supreme and District Courts of Alberta;
- Judicial districts and subdistricts, including Athabasca, Bassano, Calgary, Camrose, Drumheller, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Hanna, Lethbridge, Macleod, Medicine Hat, Peace River, Red Deer, Stettler, Vegreville, and Wetaskiwin;
- Land titles offices in Edmonton and Calgary;
- Correspondence with the Attorney-General; and
- Subjects including law libraries, small debt procedures, the Judicature Ordinance and other legislation, court houses, fees, foreclosures, Agents of the Attorney-General, divorce actions, fees, the Debt Adjustment Board, insanity, and estates of veterans of World War II.
The series also includes registers of letters received by the Office (1911-1914, 1920-1923).
