| SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The series consists of ledgers and files from the Office of the Clerk of the Judicial District of Vegreville, including records from 1928-1954 when the region was served by the Judicial District of Edmonton as well as its Vegreville Sub-district. The files comprise magistrates’ returns, fee books, as well as correspondence and subject files pertaining to birth and baptismal certificates, bankruptcy, complaints, collections of fines, district boundaries, divorce, estates, executions at Fort Saskatchewan Jail, theFarmers’ Creditors Arrangement Act, fines, foreclosures, garagemen’s liens, jury fiats, legal surveys, living person’s wills, the magistrate’s office, motor license plate registrations, trials, partnerships, prisoner escort, searches, Small Debt Act, taxation, warrants, and writs. The series contains chattel mortgage ledgers, lien note books, and documents pertaining to the registration functions performed by the District. The series also incorporates records of the Office of the Sheriff for the Judicial District of Vegreville, including process books, account books, seizure files, and sales files, as well as the records of local Inspector of Schools A.L. Doucette, including correspondence and a school census from 1933. |
