CUSTODIAL HISTORY:Some of these records were transferred to the Solicitor General from the former Department of Highways and Transport.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The series consists of records which reflect the function of the Motor Vehicles Division to administer the Motor Vehicle Accident Indemnity Act (S.A. 1947, ch. 11), which protects individuals against uninsured or unknown drivers who commit traffic violations. Specifically, the series consists of examples of case files related to motor vehicle accidents as follows: files on hit-and-run accidents, which include documents such as statements of claim, police reports, estimates and correspondence; files detailing judgments obtained through the courts against individuals, which include documents such as investigation reports, judgments, transcripts and correspondence; and files on abandoned vehicles, which include documents such as police reports, vehicle release reports, correspondence and towing and storage claims.
