SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The series consists of records transferred by the Fish and Wildlife Program Support Branch, which relate to trap line registration. The series consists of trap line registration files, maps of registered trap lines, and related trapper index cards.
Trap line registration files contain applications for registration; receipts acknowledging payment of application fee; correspondence between Indian agents and the Superintendent of Game regarding Treaty Indian applications; and certificates of registration of trap lines. Applications for registration for trap lines document the name, address, and age of the applicant; length of residence in Alberta; the number of years the applicant has trapped the line; and a description of the route or boundaries of the trap line area, including hand-drawn maps. Trap line registration files are arranged by trap line number in sequential order.
Trapping maps show the boundaries of registered trap line fur management areas. Some trapping maps are digitized. Related trapper index cards are arranged in alphabetical order of the trappers' surnames and document the trap line certificate number, trap line number, date of registration and/or renewal, and the names of any partners. If the trapper was a member of a First Nations, the Indian agency, reserve and treaty number are also documented.
