HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | The Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, the highest membership degree also called the Degree of Patriotism, was introduced in 1900. The degree indicates a love of the country and its purpose is to develop a realization of the duties of citizenship. Fourth Degree knights are organized in Assemblies, which usually comprise members from several councils.
The Champlain Province of the Fourth Degree was formed in Canada in 1910 to include Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. In 1916-1917 Saskatchewan and Alberta formed a separate district and in 1921-1922 Alberta formed its own district. In 1936 the Simon Fraser Province was formed to include Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Manitoba. Presently (2015) the Fourth Degree knights in Alberta are organized provincially in Alberta / Northwest Territories Fourth Degree including 34 assemblies, while still being part of the Simon Fraser Province along with British Columbia-Yukon, and Saskatchewan. |
