HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: The Columbian Squires circles were first formed in 1924-1925 to provide young Catholics between 13-18 years of age the opportunity to get involved in various activities in the spirit of the Catholic Church. In Alberta, the first squire circles were formed in Edmonton, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat by Cyril Bretchel, but all charters were revoked by 1932 due to lack of interest. In 1959 1963 Walter Leeb revived the squire movement, with new or reactivated circles in Edmonton, St. Albert, Calgary and other places in Alberta.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The series consists of administrative papers, correspondence, bylaws, membership information, programs and activities files, minutes and reports, and newsletters related to the administration and operation of the Squire Circles.
