HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: The Council of Edmonton Lutheran Churches was incorporated in 1975 and originally began as a monthly supper meeting for Lutheran clergy. Loosely organized in the late 1960s but later formalized with executive and a written constitution, the first decade of CELC featured special events such as Reformation Rallies and an annual Day of Dialogue with representatives of the Roman Catholic Church.; During this first decade most Lutheran churches in Canada were branches of the major American synods. While theologians in Winnipeg worked toward realizing the dream of an autonomous Lutheran Church in Canada, clergy and lay people in Edmonton worked at getting to know each other to begin local joint ministries.; Although the Day of Dialogue which had expanded to include Anglican and Ukrainian Catholic representation ceased in the mid-1990s. The main vehicle of communication for the Council of Edmonton Lutheran Churches is the "Tune-In" newspaper made available to every Lutheran family unit through distribution to the churches. "Tune-In" was originally published by the St. Albert Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1986 to 1989 and then publishing was taken over by the Council of Edmonton Lutheran Churches "Tune-In" prints some ecumenical and interfaith articles.
