HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: In 1893 the Sisters of the Assumption arrived at Battleford, in the Apostolic Vicariate of Prince Albert, and took over the school. Battleford was a strategic place for the Natives because the location, at the meeting of the Northern Branch of the Saskatchewan River and its affluent the Battle River, was a meeting place for the Natives and the employees of the Hudson’s Bay Company. During the years 1928-1929 the boarding school was at its best with fifty-two boarders. The Sisters left the school in June 1962.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The series includes the school and convent records. It consists of chronicles (1893-1961), financial records (1893-1961), programs of special events (1909-1961), inventories of properties (1897-1956), registers of attendance of students (1947-1962), lists of students’ clubs (1919-1959), lists of students’ awards (1907-1962), school marks (1947-1962), lists of communions and confirmations (1894-1961), correspondence and reports (1891-1941), files on the Sisters’ properties (1925-1962), historical research (1877-1980).
