Because of the Depression, political problems connected to Catholicism and because of a serious drought, the Sisters did not arrive until 1939. A boarding-school was built and the number of students increased. The school included several students who were not Catholic, and the teaching of French and religion was periodically questioned by the local authorities. In the 1960s, the number of Sisters teaching at the school diminished rapidly. In 1985 the Sisters left Val-Marie and their house was given to the Diocese. | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The series includes the school records.
