HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Lagustus L. Pound was born in Aylmer, Ontario, between 1870 and 1875. He moved to Western Canada with his wife in 1906 and settled in Alberta in the Ribstone area. From 1907 until 1931 he served the Ribstone area as a Notary Public and Sheriff. After his wife died in 1931, he moved to Edmonton and became very active in city and provincial organisations. He was a member of the McDougall United Men’s Association, the Edmonton Safety Council and the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. Pound was also active in politics, serving as president of the East Edmonton Hustlers Group of the Alberta Social Credit League and as a delegate to the first Canadian Social Credit Convention at Toronto in 1944. Pound died in 1949.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:The records in this fonds were found in the McDougall Court Building in Edmonton, Alberta by the owner of the building, Mr. Macmillan. Macmillan deposited these records in the Human History Division of the Provincial Museum and Archives of Alberta, and they were subsequently transferred to the archives in 1966.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: Fonds consists of personal records reflecting Pound’s various interests in Ribstone and Edmonton and reflecting his involvement with the Social Credit Party. Fonds has been divided into the following series: Personal interests; Political interests.
GENERAL NOTE: This fonds was donated at the same time and in the same accession as the following unrelated fonds: Henry A. Klassen fonds (PR0209); International Bitumen Company Limited fonds (PR0211); W.W. Sales Limited fonds (PR0213).
