ADMINISTRATIVE
HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Julie-Anne Le Gras was born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands on January 29, 1942. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology/Sociology in 1973 and a Master of Arts degree in Community Development in 1981. Le Gras was an activist in the women's movement in Edmonton, Alberta, as well as nationally. She consulted for a number of women's organizations including the Alberta Status of Women Action Committee, Alberta New Democrats, Athabasca University, and Status of Women Canada, among others. As co-manager of Louise Swift's civic election campaign in 1983, Le Gras was part of an all-woman campaign committee. She was a Public Education Officer with the Alberta Human Rights Commission, and later Co-ordinator of Continuing Education at Grant MacEwan Community College's Mill Woods Campus. Primarily a researcher, Le Gras examined women's status and roles in the municipal, provincial and federal political and social arenas. Other highlights of her involvement in feminism include being a member of the Organizational Review Committee for the National Action Committee on the Status of Women, a founding member of Common Women Books: Edmonton's Women's Bookstore and a founding member and board member for the Alberta Status of Women Action Committee. As of 1993, Julie-Anne Le Gras lives in Vancouver, B.C.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: Fonds consists of Le Gras' personal records as well as records reflecting her interests and involvement in various women's organizations. These records include publications, minutes, manuscripts, newspaper clippings, correspondence, posters, videotapes, audio cassettes and photographs.
