ADMINISTRATIVE
HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: The Polish Centennial Society 1995 was incorporated on January 23, 1995 under the Canadian Polish Congress, Alberta Branch to commemorate 100 years of Polish settlement in the Province of Alberta. The organization was made up of Advisory Board Members, Honorary Members, an Executive (President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer), and an Executive Committee-At-Large. Special projects produced by the Society for the Centennial included: music composition, the Polish Heritage Collection, a commemorative monument, and the book Polonia in Alberta 1895-1995. The society also organized 13 events around Alberta to celebrate the Centennial and Polish-Albertan culture, including those highlighting heritage, music, religion, sports, and dance. Following these events, the Society was disbanded.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:The records in the sous-fonds were originally donated to the Royal Alberta Museum by Joseph S. Bereznicki, then President of the Canadian Polish Congress, Alberta Branch, in 1996. In 2011, they were transferred to the Provincial Archives of Alberta.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The sous-fonds consists of administrative records, publicity materials and memorabilia relating to the celebratory activities of the Polish Centennial Society 1995, including: certificate of incorporation; meeting agendas and minutes; memoranda; photographs and negatives; video recordings; correspondence; project management plans; logo designs; member resolutions; reports; speeches; activity and advertising proposals; pamphlets and flyers; financial records relating to audits, grants and pledges; contracts; clippings and Polish-Albertan newspapers; reference and research materials; personal and family histories and biographies; musical scores; reviews; event programs and invites; competition rules; application letters; guest lists; congratulatory messages and greetings from politicians and other prominent figures; and, an index to the Society’s original filing system, which is reflected in the original arrangement of the records.
ARRANGEMENT NOTE: The creator’s original order and file structure have been maintained.
