| ADMINISTRATIVE | HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | The Palmer family was one of the first to settle in the Norwood area of Edmonton, moving there in 1904.
Ellenor Palmer attended Norwood School, then Victoria High School in Edmonton, Alberta. She later trained as a nurse in Lamont, Alberta. In 1925, she served at the Red Cross Unit at Pouscaupaee, Alberta, then moved to Lougheed, Alberta, where she lived from 1931 to 1935. At that time, she moved back to Edmonton, where she worked at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. For three and a half years during World War II, and then again from 1950 until her retirement in 1965, she worked as the school nurse at Norwood School.
Ellenor Palmer’s older brothers, Denton Palmer and Orvil Palmer, served in the 49th Battalion, Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force during World War I.

The fonds contains souvenir programs of Royal Visits and the 1952 coronation; 4 Canadian National Railways passenger menus; a Centennial history of Norwood School; 2 editions of the The Chinook, the Victoria High School student magazine; High School Matriculation Departmental Examination booklets for various subjects, Hymn booklet for 49th Battalion, Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force, Canadian Army Training Pamphlet No.1; program for the Imperial Cadet Competition, Canadian National Exhibition, Toronto, 1912; nine postcards of Edmonton; one postcard of Victoria, British Columbia; two souvenir photo booklets, one of Edmonton and one of Strathcona; and one photograph of Victoria High School. |
