HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Father Georges-Etienne Durocher, Oblate of Mary Immaculate (o.m.i), was born in Bonnyville, Alberta August 31, 1923, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philias Durocher. He undertook his studies at the Collège Saint-Jean in Edmonton, Alberta and at the Sacred Heart Scholasticate in Lebret, Saskatchewan, and was ordained January 30, 1949. He was the first librarian at the Faculté Saint-Jean. He edited and annotated, along with Odette Tamer-Salloum, Georges Bugnet’s Journal (1954-1971), which was published by l’Institut de recherche de la Faculté Saint-Jean, University of Alberta.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of the research materials of Georges Durocher, and includes research notes from French newspapers, a 1944 financial report from the Morinville church, a 1919 Brethren of the Pine Service book, newspapers and newspaper clippings, and sheet music for 'La Complainte de Shortis.'
RELATED RECORDS: Georges Durocher also deposited the records from PR1981.0121, the Georges Bugnet fonds, which he had received from Mrs. Marthe Beauchamp, Georges Bugnet’s daughter.
