The Edmonton Chapter of ARMA was started by Robert Morin in June 1975, to promote scientific interest in records management, to broaden the scope of service of records managers, to coordinate research, to develop and promulgate standards and to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and techniques in the art of the records management. The first meeting of local ARMA members interested in forming an Edmonton chapter was held July 9, 1975, and the Chapter’s constitution and bylaws were approved September 9, 1975, which articulated the objectives of the Edmonton Chapter, a non-profit, educational organization, as promoting and advancing the improvement of records and information management and related fields through study, education and research, advancing professional knowledge and techniques by sharing and exchanging experiences and information related to the field of records and information management, and developing and advancing standards of professional competence in the field of records and information management. The ARMA Edmonton Chapter received its Charter on September 23, 1975. Over the years, the Chapter had committees devoted to various aspects of its work, including a Seminar Committee, an Awards Committee, a Nominating Committee, a Publicity Committee, a Chapter Newsletter Committee, a Program Committee, a Membership Committee, a Legislative and Steering Committee, an Education Committee and a Library Committee. | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The fonds includes the business records of the Edmonton Chapter of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators, and includes, constitutions, by-laws, policy manuals, agendas, executive committee minutes, general minutes, Canadian presidents meeting minutes, financial statements and records, correspondence, newsletters, executive election records, reports, annuals reports, notices of meetings, membership lists, committee records, brochures, conference programs, conference information, ARMA publications, certificates, and photographs of executives, members and conferences. | GENERAL NOTE: | Information for the administrative history is from the records and from the ARMA Edmonton Chapter website, http://www.armaedmonton.com/, accessed July 15, 2004.
