The very first Nu Phi Mu chapter was established in Greenville, Illinois in 1939. In 1956, Nu Phi Mu was brought into Beta Sigma Phi as a degree of membership. There was to be one chapter per city, with as many units as were needed. The first junior affiliate unit in Edmonton, Phi Beta, was formed in September 1949.
