Wesley's father, Adolphis Mathieu, died when Wesley was just six months old; Wesley's mother, Azilda Pigeon Mathieu, returned to Montréal to her family. Azilda's family, following the general invitation of Father Morin, left for Alberta in 1894, settling in Willingdon, Alberta for one year, then moving on to Edmonton, Alberta. Wesley studied at the St. Laurent College in Montréal for four years; during this time, his mother married Onezime Huot on February 9, 1897, and they lived just east of Gibbons, Alberta. Wesley married Hélène Gagnon on February 1, 1915. They had five children: Armand Henry born January 2, 1916, Adolph born February 23, 1917, Alfred Louis born August 6, 1920, George born August 31, 1930 and Adèle born July 26, 1932. Wesley was postmaster of the area, known as Sturgeonville, as well as being secretary-treasurer of the Sturgeonville Mutual Telephone Company and secretary-treasurer of the Municipal District of Sturgeon. Wesley died November 29, 1961 and Hélène May 22, 1977. Armand never married, and remained on the family farm until his death on November 18, 1961. Adèle attended Assumption College in Edmonton, and on July 22, 1952 married Rene Blais of Debden, Saskatchewan.
