HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Les amis du fléché society was founded in 1976 in Edmonton, Alberta. The Society was incorporated as Les amis du fleché under the Societies Act on September 15, 1977. The objectives of the Society were to provide for the recreation of members and to promote and afford an opportunity for friendly and social activities, and to promote cultural interests. The Society offered introductory courses on the finger weaving of 'ceintures fléchées', or arrowhead sashes or belt, those worn by the 'coureurs des bois', the French-Canadian trappers and explorers of the Fur Trade era. The Society dissolved in 1996.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The records consist of history and instructions on weaving the belts, patterns for belts, minutes, membership lists, financial statements, grant applications, articles about the society, correspondence, newsletters, and incorporation records.
