The fonds also includes 196 negatives, 88 slides, and 59 photographs. | ADMINISTRATIVE | HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | The first Kiwanis club was founded in Detroit, Michigan on January 21, 1915. A year later, the Kiwanis Club of Hamilton, Ontario received its charter. Kiwanis International began in the 1960s, and Kiwanis now maintains over 1,500 clubs in 90 countries and geographic areas. All Kiwanis clubs follow Kiwanis International by-laws. A President, President-Elect, Vice President, Past President, Secretary, and Treasurer, as well as a Board of Directors consisting of the club officers, and not less than five elected directors manage each club. Kiwanis clubs organize social and philanthropic activities throughout their communities, particularly for children.
Edmonton maintains three Kiwanis clubs: The Kiwanis Club of Edmonton, Oil City Chapter, and the Kiwanis Club of Edmonton, Downtown Chapter, and Kiwanis Club of Edmonton South chapter. These chapters belong to the Western Canada, Division 6 of Kiwanis International.
