HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | The Kiwanis Club of Edmonton received its charter in 1919. As various chapters formed out of the Kiwanis Club of Edmonton, the club became known as the Kiwanis Club of Edmonton, Downtown chapter. In 1921 the club began construction on the Kiwanis Children's Home on 120th Street north of 103rd Avenue. The home opened in 1922 and offered beds to 55 children.
Since the club came into existence it has organized and donated to various philanthropic causes including sponsoring academic scholarships, sponsoring the Kiwanis Music Festival, helping build Camp He Ho Ha, working in conjunction with the Salvation Army and other charitable institutions, providing awards to public servants, and helping sponsor the Edmonton Heritage Festival and the Alberta Special Games.
