HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | The Fédération des parents francophones de l’Alberta (FPFA) was founded in 1986 as an initiative by the Association canadienne-francaise de l’Alberta (ACFA) and its bureau of education. In 1987, an agreement between ACFA and FPFA defined their respective domains of activity. The goal of the FPFA is to support parents’ involvement in French education for their children at home, at school and inside the francophone community. FPFA organizes two annual events, a conference including lectures, workshops and the General Assembly, and an exchange forum. Its services include workshops for parents committees and school councils, workshops for teachers based on the French program “Paul et Suzanne” and workshops for exogamic families based on the guide I’m With You. FPFA also publishes several periodicals and guides.
FPFA’s member associations include the school councils of francophone schools in Alberta, the parents committees in francophone daycares and kindergartens, and the regional parents committees like the SPEFs (Société de parents pour l’éducation francophone), the CREFs (Conseil régional d'éducation française) and the APEFs (Association de parents pour l'éducation française). FPFA is a member of Commission nationale des parents francophones (CNPF). It is administered by a board of directors (seven elected members) and an executive council (four elected members, including an executive director). The FPFA’s head office is located in Edmonton.
