HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | In September 1999, following a roundtable of provincial Francophone organizations, a decision was made to create the Coalition des femmes de l’Alberta. The Coalition was incorporated on Feb. 4, 2002 as a non-profit organization that seeks to act as a voice for Francophone women in Alberta.
The association is committed to the promotion and improvement of the status of the francophone women of Alberta in sectors as diverse as health and well-being, economy and employment, and education and training. Its goal is to provide a multidisciplinary personal, family, and community development.
Nationally, the Coalition contributes actively to the fight against poverty and violence against women through its representation on the national board of directors of the Alliance des femmes de la francophonie canadienne.
The coalition’s administration is composed of an elected Board of Directors comprised of 13 members (2017) and an appointed Executive Director. The coalition is affiliated with the Alliance des femmes de la francophonie canadienne, the Réseau canadien pour la santé des femmes, La chambre économique de l’Alberta, and L’Institut Guy-Lacombe de la famille. It also has partnerships with the Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta, Campus Saint-Jean, the Centre d’arts visuels de l’Alberta, the Fédération des parents francophones de l’Alberta, the Réseau santé albertain, and Nouveau Départ.
