As a self-governing association fulfilling the mandate established by the Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Professions (EGGP) Act, APEGGA registers, sets practice standards, and determines disciplinary actions, when necessary, for its more than 52,000 members. Only those individuals licensed with APEGGA can practice or use titles relating to working as engineers, geologists, and geophysicists in Alberta. The Association maintains a head office in Edmonton with an administrative office in Calgary. Ten branches are active in major centers throughout Alberta including: Calgary, Central Alberta, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Lakeland Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Peace River, Vermilion, and Yellowhead. An elected council of nineteen members, including three public representatives appointed by the government, directs Association affairs. Five hundred member volunteers, working on committees and boards, and more than fifty permanent staff support the organization. | CUSTODIAL HISTORY: | In 1971, Dave Leonard of the Provincial Museum of Alberta donated the material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta. It's unknown how he obtained the material. | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The fonds consists of administrative records including council minutes, annual reports, correspondence, membership registers, guidelines, and publications. The fonds also contains records from the various committees of APEGA including the License Committee, Amalgamation Committee, Ethics Committee, Committee on Life Membership, Legislation and Bylaws Committees, Nominating and Publicity Committee.
The fonds also includes a guide for the Selection of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists for Consulting Services prepared by the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta in 1965 and a membership register for the Association dating from 1965.
