Includes 689 photographs, 434 negatives, 1 transparency, 8 slides, 511 digital photographs, 4 VHS cassettes, 1 DVD and 1 map. | ADMINISTRATIVE | HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Tom Maccagno, son of MLA Michael Maccagno, was born in Lac La Biche, Alberta. A conservationist and lawyer, he served as Mayor of Lac La Biche from 1989 to 1994. He has published articles for Alberta History, Wild Lands Advocate, Nature Alberta, and the Edmonton Journal. He is a member of the Alberta Wilderness Association and the Lac La Biche Mission Historical Preservation Society, President of the Lac La Biche Birding Society, and also served as Director of the Lac La Biche Fisheries Enhancement Group. Maccagno was awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal and Canada’s Recreational Fisheries Award in 2002 and the Conservation Gold Community Award in 2003. Maccagno died in 2012. | CUSTODIAL HISTORY: | In 1993, Tom Maccagno allowed the Provincial Archives of Alberta to copy photographs of the Hudson's Bay Post, and members of the Francophone Community. Between 1998-2009, Maccagno made several donations to the Provincial Archives of Alberta. | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The fonds consists of materials created and collected by Tom Maccagno that have been further subdivided into four series. It includes the Personal Records series mainly consisting of correspondence between Maccagno and others but also including materials relating to his personal corporation and material donations he has made to various organizations; the Community Involvement series including correspondence from his time as mayor of Lac La Biche, his interactions with the Lac La Biche Chamber of Commerce, and materials on the amalgamation of Lac La Biche with Lakeland County; the Environmental Project series including materials relating to the Lac La Biche Birding Society, the Lac La Biche Fisheries Enhancement Society, the Lac La Biche Dog Sled Association, geological and archaeological surveys, recreational trails and natural areas, potential projects with environmental impacts in the Lac La Biche area, and correspondence with various scientists and professors; and the History Project series including records of the Lac La Biche Mission Historical Preservation Society, materials relating to the establishment of memorial cairns to fallen RCAF officers throughout Alberta, materials relating to historic recreations in the Lac La Biche area, records of the Lac La Biche Chronicles committee, and correspondence with various people on historic matters in the Lac La Biche area.
