A conservationist and lawyer, he served as Mayor of Lac La Biche from 1989 to 1994. He has published articles for Alberta History, Wild Lands Advocate, Nature Alberta, and the Edmonton Journal. He is a member of the Alberta Wilderness Association and the Lac La Biche Mission Historical Preservation Society, President of the Lac La Biche Birding Society, and also served as Director of the Lac La Biche Fisheries Enhancement Group. Maccagno was awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal and Canada’s Recreational Fisheries Award in 2002 and the Conservation Gold Community Award in 2003. Maccagno died in 2012. | | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The series consists of records relating to the environmental projects Maccagno has been involved with including materials relating to the Lac La Biche Birding Society, the Lac La Biche Fisheries Enhancement Society, the Lac La Biche Dog Sled Association, geological and archaeological surveys, recreational trails and natural areas, potential projects with environmental impacts in the Lac La Biche area, and correspondence with various scientists and professors.
