ADMINISTRATIVE
HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: The Campbell family consisted of John William (J.W.) and Ruby (Kilgour) Campbell and their children, Donald and Elizabeth. The Campbells lived in Cornwall, Ontario; Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Iowa City, Iowa before settling in Edmonton, Alberta in 1920. At that time, John Campbell joined the Department of Mathematics at the University of Alberta as an associate professor. The family subsequently lived in Edmonton for the rest of their lives.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:Upon the deaths of John (1955) and Ruby Campbell (1980), their material came into the custody of Donald Campbell. When Donald died in 2002, all of the material went into the custody of his daughter, Barbara, who donated the material in two accessions in 2009 and 2012.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of material created by John, Ruby, and Donald K. Campbell and includes mathematics manuscripts, poetry, correspondence, memoirs, and photographs related to Edmonton sites and events, the First World War, the University of Alberta, the Alaska Highway, and Northwestern Utilities.
ARRANGEMENT NOTE: The fonds is arranged into three series:
