HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | The Alberta Environment Network (AEN) was founded in 1980 as a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to helping preserve and protect Alberta's environment. The organization is comprised of over eighty different environmental groups from throughout the province. The AEN's purpose is to facilitate the sharing of information and resources among member groups, and to assist them in taking common action. AEN also promotes awareness of environmental issues and activities with its stakeholders and the general public. The AEN has groups working on environmental issues related to Agriculture, Clean Air/Energy, Nuclear, Toxics & Waste Avoidance, and Water. AEN facilitates participation of member groups in meetings and in consultation with government and/or industry. The AEN is a member of the Canadian Environmental Network (CEN).
The AEN has several staff who take their direction from the Steering Committee. The steering committee is elected by member groups each year. Various caucuses, composed of member groups, tackle the specific environmental issues. |
