HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

Normand Fontaine was born in 1937 in Girouxville, Alberta. He was married to Adèle and they had seven children.

He started to work for the French radio station CHFA in Edmonton in 1958 as an announcer, later becoming news anchor and radio host. During his 37 years career in radio, he hosted various shows, including ‘La boîte aux surprises’, ‘À la carte’, ‘Entre vous et moi’, and ‘Les Normandises’. He retired from Radio-Canada in 1995, devoting himself to painting and writing; his paintings were shown at the Centre d’arts visuels de l’Alberta in 2013. He also wrote poetry and short stories.

Normand Fontaine died November 25, 2014, in Edmonton.

SCOPE AND CONTENT: The textual records consist of scripts of Normand Fontaine’s shows, handwritten and decorated with drawings by him, from 1981-1983. Also included is a privately published collection of stories.
The reel-to-reel audio tapes include recorded shows of ‘Les Normandises’, broadcast in 1986-1987.
The scrapbook was given to Normand Fontaine to celebrate his 25 years milestone with Radio CHFA/Radio-Canada and includes photographs, congratulatory messages, as well as a number of original poems and drawings by Normand Fontaine.
