HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Clifford (Cliff) James Adams was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England on October 19, 1883. He immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta in 1914 with his wife Esther (Hetty) (née Evans) and son David Clifford; Cliff’s brother, Reginald Adams, who had come to Edmonton years earlier, had encouraged Cliff to come out. Cliff was a bookkeeper by trade, and worked as an office manager for the Edmonton Stock Yards and was subsequently an employee of the Canadian National Railway. Cliff was also for a time the secretary-treasurer of the Heart Stooker Company Limited. Cliff was active in St. Michael and All Angels Anglican church, serving as secretary-treasurer for many years. He was also secretary-treasurer for the North Edmonton Public School Parents’ Teachers’ Association. Cliff died March 28, 1954; Esther had died January 7, 1954.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:David C. Adams, the son of Clifford J. Adams, deposited the records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1984.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of correspondence, a brief history of St. Michael and All Angels church in North Edmonton, a City of Edmonton income tax form, a voters’ list, issues of The North Edmonton News and the Strathcona Weekly News, programs, pamphlets regarding the Edmonton Welsh church, newspaper clippings, a map of Edmonton, and photographs of friends, family, St. Michael and All Angels church, church picnic, staff, classes, a skating party, the Transit Hotel in Edmonton during a flood, and an Allanwest Cymry Edmonton event.
GENERAL NOTE: Information for the biographical sketch is from the records and from Edmonton Journal obituaries. The photographs can be located in the A file of the Provincial Archives of Alberta reference prints under the numbers A.12,139 to A.12,143. The records were deposited at the same time, and in the same accession, as the following unrelated fonds, the North Edmonton Public School Parents’ Teachers’ Association fonds, records (secretary-treasurer’s correspondence) belonging to the St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church fonds, and the following discrete items: the Alberta Citizens’ Registration Covenant of David Clifford Adams and the Constitution and Bylaws of the Highlands District Community League
