HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Frederick St. Clair Farran was born March 5, 1876 in Bombay, India. He was the son of Sir Charles Frederick and Ethel Kate (Simmonds) Farran. A civil engineer, Fred was in charge of the construction of the Lethbridge High Level Bridge, also known as the Lethbridge Viaduct, which was built for the Canadian Pacific Railway Company and constructed in 1908 and 1909 over the Old Man River. Fred was then in charge of the concrete pier and foundation work of the High Level Bridge in Edmonton, Alberta.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:T.A.D. Farran, Frederick Farran's nephew, deposited the records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1988.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of a postcard of the construction of the High Level Bridge in Edmonton and various photographs and postcards of the construction of the High Level Bridge (Viaduct) in Lethbridge, including some images which show the effects of the 1908 flood in the area.
