HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Robert Shearer was born in 1941. He was an auto mechanic and was employed by the Government of Alberta for thirty-three years until his death in 1998. At the time of his passing, he was the Manager of Vehicle Services for the government. Robert and Sylvia married in 1963, and they had a cottage at Hastings Lake, where he filmed some of the footage in this fonds. Robert Shearer’s hobbies were downhill skiing, target shooting and amateur filmmaking.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: This fonds consists of four silent, colour 8mm home movies taken by Robert Shearer. The subject matter includes boating, water skiing, city neon lights, Cooking Lake and snow skiing footage.
DATE NOTE: Dates were taken from postmarks on the boxes in which the films were mailed back to Mr. Shearer from the processing lab.
GENERAL NOTE: This fonds was donated at the same time and in the same accession as the following unrelated discrete items: Home movie of bears by unknown filmmaker (PR0396); Home movie of water-skiing at Elk Island by unknown filmmaker (PR0397).Biography supplied by Robert Shearer’s widow, Sylvia Shearer.
