HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Dr. Nelson Nix was born in 1915 in Edmonton, Alberta, the son of James Edward and Edna Mary (Leake) Nix. Mr. J.E. Nix had come to Edmonton, Alberta from Texas in 1909; he was a well-respected businessman as well as being one of the first trustees of Wesley United Church. Nelson’s siblings included brothers Harold, Charles Edward, and James Ernest, and sister Mabel.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of images from Edmonton, Alberta originally dating from about the 1920s, of a women’s bible class at Wesley United Church, the Wesley baseball team, group portraits, children, families, buildings and stores (exteriors and interiors) including grocery and butchers, home exteriors and interiors, automobiles, a ferry, the High Level Bridge and Legislature building, and people swimming. The fonds also includes a photograph of Alberta women attending Parliament during the passage of the Equal Rights Bill.
