ADMINISTRATIVE
HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: In 1995, the County of Lethbridge No. 26 and the County of Vulcan No. 2 school systems merged to form Palliser Regional Schools. The Division serves Bow River and the Sik’sika Nation on the north edge to Chin Coulee and the Kainai Nation Reserve Blood 148. The Division also serves the rural areas of Aarowood, Barons, Carmangan, Champion, Coaldale, Coalhurst, Ironsprings, Milo, Nobleford, Picture Butte, Shaughnessy, Sunnyside, and Vulcan. The school also offers 14 Hutterian schools.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:In 1968, the Provincial Archives of Alberta accepted records on a permanent loan basis from the County of Lethbridge No. 26. This donation included both municipal district records and school district records. In 1992, the County of Lethbridge made another donation of county records on permanent loan. This donation of records included only school district records. In 1998, the Provincial Archives of Alberta sought to change the status of the records from permanent loan to gift status. However a merger between County of Lethbridge No. 26 and the County of Vulcan No. 2 school systems to form Palliser Regional Schools, in 1995, placed the school district records included in the donation under the authority of Palliser Regional Schools, but responsibility for the municipal government records remained with Lethbridge County No. 26. In 1998, Lethbridge County No. 26 approved changing its municipal district records from permanent loan to gift status. However, it could not authorize a change in status for school district records. In 1998, Palliser Regional Schools approved changing the status of its school district records from permanent loan to gift.
