HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Winnifred Gladys Fielder was born February 2, 1902, in London, England and immigrated to Islay, Alberta in 1912 with her family. Edwin Alfred Charles Kinch was born December 29, 1893, in North Hamptonshire, England and immigrated to Wellsdale, Alberta (later called Clandonald) in 1910 with his family. They were married on December 25, 1918 in Islay, Alberta and homesteaded at Wellsdale. Daughter Winnifred (Wynne) was born in 1921. Daughter Eleanor (Lee) was born in 1923. Son Edwin Alfred Thomas was born in 1928 and died in 1946 at the age of 18. The family left the homestead in 1924 to move to Beverly (later became a part of Edmonton), Alberta where Edwin worked in the coal mine in the winters and for Northern Boat Builders, owned by Captain Matheison, in the summers. In 1941, they moved to the Highlands area of Edmonton where they built their house, and Edwin continued his mine and boat building work. When the family lived in Beverly, Winnifred taught sewing out of their home once a week to local schoolgirls.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:Donated by Wynne G. McAra, daughter of Edwin and Winnifred G. Kinch.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: Fonds consists of recorded oral history and typed memoir of pioneers Winnifred and Edwin Kinch, 1 unmounted photograph of Edwin, Winnifred, Wynne and Lee, 32 unmounted photographs of boat building in Edmonton taken by Edwin Kinch circa (ca.) 1930s, one Charles Mathers commercially produced photograph album, ca. 1880s, and seven mounted photographs by Ernest Brown, 1884-1887.
