SCOPE AND CONTENT:

The series consists of Edmonton, Alberta weekly publications SEE Magazine #16-913 (1992-2011), VUE Magazine #1-1205 (1995-2018) and the Edmonton Bullet (1983-1993).

SEE Magazine was a free alternative weekly newspaper published in Edmonton, Alberta between 1992-2011. In 1994, SEE merged with the Edmonton Bullet, a tabloid format bi-weekly newspaper originally founded by Reg Silvester, Candas Jane Dorsey, Judith Haiven, Stuart Hertzog and Janet Bliss in 1983 to help artists garner attention for their work. Soon after the merge, SEE was acquired by its publisher, Gazette Press, due to outstanding debts. In 1995, several of the original SEE staff left the newspaper to found the rival VUE Magazine. In 2011, both SEE and VUE were purchased by a British Columbia publisher who merged the two publications under the VUE Weekly banner. In 2018, VUE ceased publication. Each of the three newspapers (SEE, VUE and Bullet) played a significant role in promoting, sponsoring and documenting the Edmonton arts scene between 1983-2018.
