HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: William Cooper Shaw was born in Ireland on April 16, 1883. Shaw served as a City Detective in Edmonton in 1916. In 1929, Shaw bought property near Bremner, Alberta and established a farm. From 1934 to 1935, Shaw served as a Game Guardian. William Cooper Shaw had a brother who resided in Vancouver, British Columbia.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:Gordon Berdahl deposited this material at the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1993 and 1995. Mr. Berdahl found this material in an abandoned house located in central Alberta.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: Fonds consists of correspondence, registration of birth, pamphlets, bank cheques, telegrams, diaries, financial records, game regulations, photographic postcards, as well as instructions to police magistrates and Justice of the Peace. Photographs depict an alcohol still from a bootlegging liquor operation, other police photographs and portraits. Material has been arranged in chronological order.
