TITLE: Gerhard Splinter fonds
CREATOR: Gerhard Splinter
DATE RANGE: 1973-1985
EXTENT: 0.3 m of textual records: 16 notebooks. - 1 audiocassette [1 hr.].
HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Gerhard Splinter was an employee with Public Works Canada based in Alberta.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:The entire custodial history of the material is unknown, but was maintained by Splinter and then by his son, Stephan Splinter, who donated the material to the PAA in 2008.

The fonds consists of notebooks in which Splinter recorded the progress of the projects he was working on; collected separate materials such as letters and plans; and noted dates, locations, and temperatures. The diaries are extremely detailed and effectively document the planning and building processes used by Public Works for various sites around Alberta, including Drumheller, Boyle, Stony Plain, Edmonton, Bowden, Thorsby, and others. There are also some sites in the Northwest Territories. Building projects include federal sites such as RCMP buildings and community projects such as gyms and sports fields.

The audiocassette accompanies the seventh volume of the notebooks and consists of Splinter elaborating on the projects documented in that notebook.

LANGUAGE NOTE: The material is in English.
