HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | John and Emmeline Watson lived in Manitoba and Spirit River, Alberta before settling in Chilliwack, British Columbia. John Watson was born in 1863 and died in 1943. Emmeline Watson of Nova Scotia died in 1930. Their son, Corporal Reid Watson, served in the First World War with the 66th Canadian Battalion during World War I and died in action. |
CUSTODIAL HISTORY: | In 1994, Janet R. Mitchell donated the material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta. Emmeline Watson was an aunt to Janet R. Mitchell's husband, Howard T. Mitchell. |
SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The fonds consists of a diary written by Emmeline Watson documenting the family's trip from Selkirk, Manitoba to Spirit River, Alberta in 1912 by train and wagon; postcards, including picture postcards featuring Alberta scenes; correspondence written by Reid Watson to his family while serving in World War I; a photograph of Reid Watson in uniform; and memorial records for John and Emmeline Watson. |
