HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Robert Charles Guest was born in Alberta on March 17, 1938 to Wilfred Llewelyn and Tamar (nee Holmes) Guest. Guest grew up in the area around Beaverlodge and Hinton Trail, Alberta. He completed Junior High School in 1955 and attended the Banff School of Fine Arts during the summers of 1956 and 1957. On June 30, 1961 he obtained a diploma from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology after completing a two year course in General Art at the Alberta College of Art. On May 14, 1966 he married Myrtle McNeill. Guest worked as a tower man at the Copton Tower, Grande Prairie Division from 1961 to 1963, in 1965 and in 1968. He is also a well known painter and active in protecting the wolf. Guest belonged to a number of organisations including the Alberta Society of Artists, the Peace Watercolour Society and the Canadian Wolf Defenders, which he founded in 1968. He also wrote the book Trail North: A journey in words and pictures in 1995. Guest passed away in Nanaimo, British Columbia, June 13, 2017.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: Fonds consists of records pertaining to Guest’s personal life, as well as records reflecting his interests and his involvement in different organisations. These records include daily diaries, correspondence, minutes for different organisations, newsletters, photographs and personal drawings. The fonds has been divided into the following series: Personal papers; Canadian Wolf Defenders; Alberta Society of Artists; Peace Watercolour Society; Hinton Trail Project.
