HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Kenneth Campbell McLeod was born in Zorra, Ontario in 1873 to William Campbell and Mary (nee McKay) McLeod. In 1898 Kenneth C. McLeod opened the first Presbyterian mission on the British Columbia coast. In 1899 he returned to Ontario to attend Queen’s University. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in May 1903 and graduated from Queen’s University in 1905. Upon his graduation he was called to the ministry in Ponoka, Alberta. He then served various parishes throughout Alberta, moving to Camrose in 1907 and later to Stettler.During the First World War McLeod became a member of the Chaplain Services for the 202nd Battalion and saw active service in France from 1916 until 1919. Following his service he returned to Canada and became the superintendent of Child Welfare for the Province of Alberta until 1937. McLeod then resumed his career with the ministry in Alberta and served at a parish in Mannville until 1950. He later served a parish in Grimshaw where he remained until 1961, at which time he moved to Stony Plain. McLeod remained in Stony Plain until his retirement in 1965. He died June 20, 1966 in Edmonton, Alberta. Kenneth C. McLeod and his wife Winnifred had one son, Kenneth and two daughters, Audrey and Mary.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: Fonds consists of records pertaining to Kenneth Campbell McLeod and his family, as well as the records of the 202nd Battalion of the Canadian Infantry. These records include minutes, correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, programs, diaries and books. The fonds has been divided into the following series: 202nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry records; and Personal records.
