HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Jasper Place United Church had its origins in a Sunday School started in the Jasper Place and Crestwood neighbourhoods of Edmonton under the sponsorship of Robertson United Church in 1929. The Sunday School was held in a local school. Church services also started to be held in the school in 1931. Services were later moved to the Community Hall. In 1945, a motion was passed by the community to create a new United congregation under the name of Jasper Place United Church. Construction began on a church building in the fall of 1946 with a service held in the completed basement on April 6, 1947. The mortgage was burned on April 2, 1950. Construction work began to extend the basement and build the church Sanctuary in the fall of 1950. Opening services for the new additions were held on March 25, 1951. In the spring of 1953, plans were completed for finishing the church and the construction of a manse. The completed church building was dedicated in 1953. In 1956, Jasper Place United Church was re-dedicated at St. Andrew's United Church. St. James United Church Amalgamated with St. Andrew's United Church in 1993 into a newly constituted St. Andrew's United Church. It continues to exist in the same location on 99 Ave and 148 Street in Edmonton. It is part of the Edmonton Presbytery.
