HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: CITV, Edmonton was established in 1973 by Edmonton surgeon and businessman, Dr. Charles Allard. ITV, for Independent Television, signed-on in September 1974. ITV was part of Allarcom Limited, which also included Allarcom Pay Television, Video Pack, Allarcom Publishing Limited and Allarcom Productions Limited. In 1991, Allarcom was acquired by Western International Communications Limited and on September 4th 2000, ITV became part of the Global Television Network, a national broadcast entity founded by Israel (Izzy) Asper.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of film footage of CITV, Edmonton and includes local Edmonton footage, specifically final productions and film elements of commercials, news, sports, telecast film clips and documentaries. The records have been arranged into the following series: Fort McMurray, City of Edmonton and Klondike Days promotions, Calgary Stampede promotions, News, 1976 Federal Progressive Conservative Leadership Contest, Commercials, Sports, Entertainment, Careers, Miscellaneous, City of Edmonton (various projects), Snow Fighters, To Serve our City, Edmonton LRT construction and operation, Art Sale, Orphans of Mount Yamnuska (feature length film) and Operation Morning Light.
