He was the son of Frank and Georgia (West) Pike. In 1915, the family moved to Edmonton, Alberta. In 1934, Rodney was a junior at the St. Jean Baptiste Market Branch of the Bank of Montreal in Montreal, Quebec. He joined the Canadian Navy in September 1939 and served for a time with the Royal Navy. In 1944, he became a Captain in the Canadian Navy, and commanded the corvette H.M.C.S. Orangeville during the Battle of the Atlantic. Later he was involved with the Canadian Executive Service Organization. In 1988, he presented a lecture entitled "The Prairie Contribution to the Canadian Navy" to the Historical Society of Alberta. | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The fonds consists of histories by Rodney Pike of Norman Pitcher's Cottage, Frank Pike and the Westward Ho school, copies of correspondence and reminiscence gathered about the prairie contribution to the Canadian Navy, and images of Boy Scouts and Westward Ho School students. | ASSOCIATED MATERIAL: | Other records pertaining to the Pike family are located in the Rodney Pike fonds at the City of Edmonton Archives in Edmonton, Alberta and the Montgomery, Pike, and West family fonds at the City of Wetaskiwin Archives in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. | RELATED RECORDS: | Also see the Frank Pike fonds at the Provincial Archives of Alberta; Rodney Pike deposited these records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1988.
