She attended the Bloomfield and Lamont schools, and graduated from the Camrose Normal School in 1915. Beginning in 1916, she taught at Baker School, near Ardrossan, Alberta. While there, she met Thomas John Stainton, who was a student minister at the Ardrossan Methodist Church. Born in Ontario, Thomas was studying at Alberta College (South), a Methodist college, in Edmonton, Alberta; he was there from 1912 to 1918. After Baker School, Irene taught at Limestone Lake School. In 1919 Irene and Thomas were married. They moved to Toronto, Ontario where Thomas continued with postgraduate studies at Victoria College. A year later they returned to Alberta and Thomas was ordained. He then served with many congregations throughout Alberta, including Bon Accord, Waterhole, Minburn, Innisfree, Bashaw, Ryley, Holden, Edson, Edmonton, High Prairie and Didsbury. He retired in 1961. T.J. Stainton died September 4, 1962. Their children included William John, Clara May (Andrews) and Alice Elizabeth (Henbest). Irene Stainton died in 1994. | | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The fonds consists of images of students attending Alberta College (South) and includes images of the Students’ Council and the Young Men’s Christian Association (Y.M.C.A.) executive; the images include T.J.
