The Edmonton and District Quilter’s Guild (EDQG), a non-profit organization, was founded in Edmonton in 1979. It was an extension of the original West Edmonton Quilter’s Guild founded by Pat Macri and Clara Latham. The number of members has grown from 35 at its inception to more than 300. The first general meeting was held at St. Vincent’s School in Edmonton with an attendance of 60 members, many of whom would become charter members of the guild.

The objectives of the guild are to promote the appreciation of fine quilts; sponsor and support quilting activities; encourage the continued making and collecting of quilts, contribute to the growth and knowledge of quilting techniques, textiles, patterns, and history, and to assist quilt makers through educational meetings, travel, and fellowship. The EDQG is a volunteer run organization and participates in a variety of community service and charity projects. They also maintain a library of quilt related books and magazines available to members and publish a newsletter nine times per year.

The executive of the organization is comprised of the following ten officers: A President; a Past President; a First Vice-President; a Second Vice-President; a Secretary; a Treasurer; a Membership Chair; a Program Chair; a Newsletter Chair; and a Public Relations Chair. The term of office is one year. Guild membership is open to the public and members are entitled to benefits negotiated by the Guild and subject to payment of the annual general fees as approved at the annual general meeting. Members meet on a monthly basis.
